Working to make SOMERSET the HEALTHIEST County in New Jersey.

Exercise and physical activity are essential components of a healthy lifestyle. Somerset County's 305 square miles feature a variety of landscapes and contain over 14,000 acres of county-owned parkland, over 8,000 acres of preserved farmland, and over 3,000 acres of greenways. In addition to parks and open space owned and maintained by municipalities, the Somerset County Park Commission offers a wide range of opportunities for leisure pursuit.

Healthier Somerset is a long-time advocate for Complete Streets, which are roadways designed and operated to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities. Complete Streets make it easy to cross the street, walk to shops, and bicycle to work. Instituting a complete streets policy ensures that agencies routinely design and operate the entire right of way to enable safe access for all users.

In 2016, Somerset County adopted a Complete Streets policy. Healthier Somerset applauds Somerset County for this action, and we join the county in encouraging all 21 of Somerset County municipalities to adopt a Complete Streets policy.  We recognize these municipalities who have adopted resolutions in support:
